Rose-Aimée and Clark Butler have lived in the house that is the LaSalle Bed & Breakfast Inn since 1990. They originally purchased it for use as a dance studio in the years before Rose-Aimée became Youth Director of the Fort Wayne Ballet. They opened the LaSalle Inn in early 2003 as a way to share the history of the home as well as pay for some of its restoration. Rose-Aimée is a native of Lille, France, and spent much of her youth in West Africa as the daughter of a French government administrator. Clark is a native of Hollywood, California, who earned his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. He also studied at the American University in Cairo, Egypt, and at the University of Tunis in North Africa. He is a Purdue University Professor of Philosophy at the Indiana University-PurdueUniversity campus in Fort Wayne (IPFW). Clark is also active in research and is an accomplished author. He has published ten books, including Human Rights Ethics (Purdue University Press, 2008) and two book-length translations of German philosophy (including Hagel’s Lectures on Logic, Indiana University Press, 2008). Since their marriage in 1971, Clark and Rose-Aimée have lived in Nottingham, England; Bochum, Germany; and Strasbourg, France, with their daughter, Elizabeth. They have a second residence in Strasbourg, where Clark has been taking students to study human rights law for the past seven years, and a studio apartment in Paris. Clark and Rose-Aimée love having guests and the opportunity to talk with people from around the nation and the world.
